Life Changing Experience of Double Cleansing

For the longest time I struggled with uneven skin, bumps and random pimples through my teens and now into my twenties. I tried so many products but most of them either didn’t do enough or stripped my skin too much. It wasn’t until I discovered something called double cleansing that I really saw a positive change in my skin. Especially since before I started this style of cleansing I thought I had oily skin, but I found out I was really just using the wrong products. If your thinking about trying it out here is how to start.

What is double cleansing?

Double cleansing is just what it says, when you cleanse the skin twice. First you use an oil based cleanser and follow it up with a water based cleanser. You can do this once a day or twice a day, but I prefer to do it only at night. I find my skin doesn’t need so much cleansing when I wake up. I also find this to be the easiest and most beneficial night time skin regime I have ever used. Its take minimal time and effort and you don’t have to use expensive products for it to work.

Steps to Double Cleansing

Start by finding an oil based cleanser, I recommend Burt’s Bee’s Cleansing Oil or Palmers Cleansing Oil. Both are great and reasonably priced. I start by wetting only my hands, dropping the oil on my wet fingers and rubbing it onto my dry skin. This breaks up all the makeup and dirt from the day. After working it into the skin with only a small amount of water rinse the oil off completely. You can find the Burt’s Bees oil here and Palmers oil here.

Next choose a water based cleanser, again I use Burt’s Bees Sensitive Facial Cleanser. Use this cleanser on your wet skin and lather it in. This helps give the skin a thorough wash and leaves nothing behind. This can help get rid of stubborn bumps and pimples on the face. Wash everything off and pat the face dry. You can find Burt’s Bees Cleanser on Amazon or Target.

I double cleanse throughout the year and I found it has made my skin much more predictable and less oily. I found this technique to be excellent for sensitive skin because the two products separately get the skin clean without using harsh products. This technique can also be used for all skin types by using varied products. I also use this light exfoliant once a week to help get a deeper clean, see my section on exfoliating safely for more.
